Riot IDs can be alphanumeric and 3 to 16 characters long. They must be unique when combined with your tagline. You can use special characters like α and μ. You can also change your tagline, which includes a hashtag and a set of numbers or letters, and it can be 3 to 5 characters long.
Changing your VALORANT name affects your name in all other Riot titles, as they all use your Riot ID. If you make a mistake, it will be present across all Riot-based titles you own. So choose your name carefully.
Riot may flag your Riot ID for inappropriate or offensive language, and may charge your account for repeat offenses. Avoid names that suggest hate speech, slurs, profanity, historical or political references, insults, grotesque imagery, or strong vulgarity.
It doesn’t cost money to change your VALORANT name. You get a free Riot ID change once every 90 days. If you need to change your name sooner due to negative effects, you can submit a player ticket for assistance.
Your Riot account username is used for logging into the Riot client and cannot be changed. It is a unique global username that spans all games and regions. If you want a different username, you would need to create a new Riot account, but it’s not recommended due to the effort involved.
