“Destiny 2’s Beloved Horde Mode Gets Major Overhaul Next Week”

Destiny 2’s Onslaught Mode is Getting a Major Overhaul

Destiny 2’s Onslaught mode quickly became a favorite among players after its launch in April 2024. Now, six months later, Bungie is revamping the beloved horde mode with the release of Episode Revenant on October 8.

What to Expect from Onslaught: Salvation

In a recent developer stream, Bungie unveiled the new version of Onslaught, named Onslaught: Salvation. This updated mode promises to bring more defenses, new maps, and different enemies, along with the chance to earn substantial loot. The demonstration took place on Widow’s Court, a PvP map repurposed for this mode.

New Defenses and Mechanics

Onslaught: Salvation introduces several new defenses to help players tackle waves of enemies. Among these are an operable turret, which can be upgraded to use Scorch rounds, and an airstrike module that allows players to booby-trap and lock down areas by raining fire. These new tools are expected to add strategic depth to the gameplay.

The old Tripwires are also getting an upgrade. They will now explode with slowing fields from Stasis, and upgrading them will create Stasis Crystals. This change aligns with the seasonal Artifact for Revenant, which offers numerous Stasis-related perks, making these once-overlooked defenses more valuable.

Variants and Rewards

Onslaught: Salvation will feature three variants:

  • the 10-wave playlist version
  • the 50-wave regular version
  • the 50-wave Expert run

From wave 30 onwards, players have a small chance to earn a masterwork, double-perk weapon. The Expert difficulty increases these chances by offering more chests.

Map Reworks and Power Level Adjustments

The less popular Mothyards map is also being reworked, though these changes may take longer to implement. Players might not see the updated map at the start of Episode Revenant.

Onslaught: Salvation will enable Power level differences, making the activity more challenging at the episode’s beginning. However, as players improve their Artifact levels or engage in the seasonal pinnacle grind, the difficulty should decrease.

Conclusion

Destiny 2 players can dive into the revamped Onslaught: Salvation mode when Episode Revenant releases on October 8. With new defenses, upgraded mechanics, and the promise of substantial loot, this update is set to breathe new life into the horde mode.
